Yes, it is an absolute truth. Now you can see how it is to ride a tank in Riga. It is one of the craziest activities to do while visiting Riga and the Baltics.

During the experience, you will have a chance to take a ride accompanied by the instructor with this nightly beast along the roads, meadows, and shrubs. And over the period fully experience the vehicle’s technical features, as well as learn more about its history. Please note the driving the tank itself by yourself is not supported by this activity, due to the safety reasons, however, you will have a chance to sit by the steering wheel in the driver’s cabin and feel the vibe and feeling of being in charge of this vehicle.

For the duration of the tour, you will be fully equipped with proper safety equipment and military attributes like helmets, armour vests, etc.

Additionally, after the tour, you can go for a variety of other great on-site activities like a Laser-tag, Location Orientation Game, etc.

Tanks

By default, you have an option for the most popular “Soviet BTR-80 Ride”. However, we have various options for the tanks. Please pick the one that’s more preferable for you, or let us know if you have questions:

Soviet BTR-80 Armoured Transporter
(Russian: Bronetransporter, literally “Armoured Transporter”) is an 8×8 wheeled amphibious armoured personnel carrier (APC) designed in the USSR. It was adopted in 1986 in the Soviet Army and was first deployed during the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

Sturmgeschütz III (or StuG III, The Bb2 StuG III Ausf. B) German Assault Rifle Fighting Vehicle
Stug III was Germany’s most-produced fully tracked armoured assault fighting vehicle during World War II, and second-most produced German armoured combat vehicle of any type after the Sd. Kfz. 251 half-track. Initially intended as a mobile assault gun for direct-fire support for infantry, the StuG III was continually modified, and much like the later “Jagdpanzer” was employed as a tank destroyer.

Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251 (The Sd.Kfz. 251) German Armoured Vehicle
German armoured fighting vehicle Hanomag – half-track was a WW2 German armoured fighting vehicle designed by the Hanomag company, based on its earlier, unarmored Sd.Kfz. 11 vehicle. The Sd.Kfz. 251 was designed to transport the “panzergrenadiers” (German mechanized infantry) into battle.

Options

By default, you have an option for the most popular “Soviet BTR-80 Ride” (1 or 2 Hours). However. we have various options for the tanks and scenarios. Please pick the one that’s more preferable for you, or let us know if you have questions:

Soviet BTR-80 Ride (1-2 Hours)

During the experience, you will have a chance to take a ride accompanied by the instructor with this nightly beast along the roads, meadows, and shrubs. And over the period fully experience the vehicle’s technical features, as well as learn more about its history. Please note the driving the tank itself by yourself is not supported by this activity, due to the safety reasons, however, you will have a chance to sit by the steering wheel in the driver’s cabin and feel the vibe and feeling of being in charge of this vehicle.

Scenario 1: Try the Tank Ride (1 hour)

– around 20 minutes on the “StuG III” (WW2) around the territory of 10 hectare
– around 20 minutes on the “Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251” (WW2) around the territory of 10 hectare

Part of the group is loaded on the StuG III and another on Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251. After one lap you are welcome to exchange the vehicle.

Notes:
Max capacity per 2 vehicles: 10 – 12 people at the same time.

Scenario 2: An Hour in the Army (~1.5 hours)

You are handed over the WWII USSR and Third Reich (1939-1945) uniforms. After arriving on the territory you are put into the army formations with real training and preparations for the tank ride. You will also get some great 1:1 replica of the original WW2 weapons to carry around!

– 30 minutes of the army briefing when you are formed into the real platoon, learn commands, instructions on the gun handling as well as tank riding skills and vehicle boarding. Appointment of the commander of your platoon.
– around 20 minutes on the “StuG III” (WW2) around the territory of 10-hectares
– around 20 minutes on the “Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251” (WW2) around the territory of 10-hectare.
– WW2 (Soviet Red Army and Germany Third Reich) real 1:1 war-clothing and ammunition.
– WW2 (Soviet Red Army and Germany Third Reich) real 1:1 weapon versions (not replicas) – Mosin Nagant Rifle, PPsH automatic gun, PPS hand-gun, Mauser k98 Karabin, MP-40 automatic gun.

Part of the group is loaded on the StuG III and another on Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251. After one lap you are welcome to exchange the vehicle.

Notes:
Max capacity per 2 vehicles: 10 – 12 people at the same time.

Scenario 3: An Hour in the Army with Cinematic Experience, Shooting Range and a BBQ (~2.5 hours)

You are handed over the WWII USSR and Third Reich (1939-1945) uniforms. After arriving on the territory you are put into the army formations with real training and preparations for the tank ride. You will also get some great 1:1 replica of the original WW2 weapons to carry around, as well as some shooting range experience (blanks) after the tour with 10 bullets each from German Mauser k98 Karabin and Soviet Mosin Nagant Rifle.

And the best highlight of the tour – the Real Actors “WW2 Cinematic Experience” at a certain point during the Tank Ride, when you will approach a column of an enemy ambush and get involved into the “real” WW2 combat battle. Who wins in that will be judged by your precision and tactical skills!

– 30 minutes of the army briefing when you are formed into the real platoon, learn commands, instructions on the gun handling as well as tank riding skills and vehicle boarding. Appointment of the commander of your platoon.
– Mission Briefing for the day and further “WW2 Cinematic Experience” encounter.
– around 20 minutes on the “StuG III” (WW2) around the territory of 10-hectare
d) around 20 minutes on the “Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251” (WW2) around the territory of 10-hectares.
– Real Actors “WW2 Cinematic Experience” at a certain point during the Tank Ride.
– WW2 (Soviet Red Army and Germany Third Reich) real 1:1 war-clothing and ammunition.
– WW2 (Soviet Red Army and Germany Third Reich) real 1:1 weapon versions (not replicas) – Mosin Nagant Rifle, PPsH automatic gun, PPS hand-gun, Mauser k98 Karabin, MP-40 automatic gun.
– 10 bullet shots (blanks) per person from Mauser k98 Karabin and Mosin Nagant Rifle.
– Imitation attacks with shooting at the enemy and opponents theatrically dying.
– Tasty “Army Style” barbecue (with soft drinks) after the tour!

Part of the group is loaded on the StuG III and another on Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251. After one lap you are welcome to exchange the vehicle.

Notes:
Max capacity per 2 vehicles: 10 – 12 people at the same time.
More shots of bullets are available as an extra. Please inquire in advance.

This was an amazingly epic experience! While visiting Riga, my husband and I booked the bobsleigh excursion with Riga... Guide. Wow, what a ride! Highly recommended. Riga Guide was fantastic with returning emails and answering and questions and concerns we had. Our tour guide, Ilia, was fantastic. He was punctual, delightful and very personable. At the track he graciously took pictures and a video of us heading down the track. He made this excursion even more enjoyable. Highly recommend Riga Guide and the Bobsleigh Excursion!!!read more

Steph, our guide, was absolutely brilliant. Picked us up from our hotel and told us all about Riga on the commute to... and from the bobsleigh track. The g-force bobsleigh was amazing (it feels like a roller-coaster) and we didn't have to wait long. There's also an observation deck where you can view the national park. The only downside was an error by the office staff overcharging us for the experience, which put a downer on the day, as I was told I wasn't able to do the bobsleigh unless we paid more. This was eventually resolved by the owner when he apologised for the error and confirmed no further payment was needed. I advise you pay the balance in full before the trip to avoid incompetent staff trying to overcharge you.read more

Ilya, the guide who picked me up to take me to the Bobsleigh track, was superb. He was in great communication with me... on his way to pick me up and even sent me recommendations of places to eat afterwards. He was lovely and I cannot fault him. Unfortunately, the actual experience was awful. I had paid a lot of money to ride a vuchko down the bobsleigh track, when making my booking I made the company aware that I was going to be alone. I was charged a significant amount more than what was stated on their website which I didn't mind as I understood that I was being charged the full group price which would normally be split between the members of the group. But when I got to the bobsleigh track they insisted that I had to pay an extra €15 to ride the vuchko where you face headfirst as I wasn't able to ride the seated one, being on my own. I was only told this after my ride so I had no choice other than to pay it. I was clearly the last person to visit and ride on the track for the day as it was very rushed. Considering the amount of money that I paid for this experience I would expect to be given a little time to have a picture taken or look around the track in more detail. I was shoved into a vuchko, pushed off onto the track, dragged off the track and taken back to the car to go back to the hotel. I feel slightly cheated out of the money that I paid. The only positive was that Ilya, the guide, was so friendly and positive.read more

A surreal experience for anyone who has never held/shot a gun in his/her life. It was scary but weirdly exciting. Sure... to get the adrenaline pumping! Picked up and dropped back off at the hotel. The shooting range is set inside in closed off rooms. Very nice people, and very flexible - if you want to shoot a different weapon, you can browse the catalog there and pay extra on sight.read more
