About Chernobyl
The events, which had happened in this territory, changed the course of our civilization. In the dark night of April 26, 1986, reactor 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear powerplant exploded and fired a scorching-hot fountain of radiation into the environment. In several weeks Chernobyl radiation travelled with the winds all over the world.Abandoned islands of civilization – two towns, settlements and villages, tens of thousands of former human dwellings in total – are engulfed by proliferating vegetation and wildlife. Now at the ground level, in a thousand times decreased the scale, lies the picture of contamination after the vast Chernobyl radiation incident. This picture is extremely interesting and representative for radiation or chemical accidents – and, fortunately, already safe for visitors.
Seasons
Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is a unique place which always stays unusual. Even if you come here in a week after your last visit it will look a little bit different. Speaking about the difference between a summer and a winter trip, it is far more drastic. Yet, we should draw basic distinctions between seasonal visits to Chernobyl and Pripyat:WinterVisibility is perfect and objects are well noticed from a great distance. Plus, there are a lot of wild animals’ trails on the snow. Bare trees make gloomy Pripyat buildings visible, while in summer they sink in greenery.SpringIt is a wonderful time when Lady Nature is waking up. Incomparable views. The only problem is to grasp the very moment when the snow has already melted and yet, there is no greenery.SummerWarm weather, an orgy of greenery, trees rooted in Pripyat buildings, fern plants growing in apartments. The longest daytime and the most predictable stable weather, compared to interim autumn and spring.AutumnAutumn is one of the most beautiful and colourful seasons. There is less greenery, and, thus, better visibility of Pripyat facilities. Corresponding post-apocalyptical views.
