M’Hamid El Ghazlan is a region with a desert landscape, located in the province of Zagora, formerly known Taragaltel, it is part of the rural municipalities of Zagora province in the south of Morocco. This area was again a cross and a pause station of the Saharan trade. Today it is an essential starting point for excursions and tours in the desert, mainly to the dunes and valleys of Erg Chegaga.

Day 1: Marrakech-Ouarzazate-Zagora-Telwet-Mhamid
Departure from Marrakech in minibus, you will cross the High Atlas via the pass of TICHKA 2260 m, with stunning scenery and panoramic views. Then you will come to Ouarzazate to visit the Kasbah of Taorirte and lunch. Then you will continue your journey to the Draa Valley and the city of Zagora through the Anti Atlas via the pass of Tiniffift 1660 m altitude. Before sunset, you will arrive to the desert of Mhamid at the foot of the dunes of Erg Lihoudi for a ride camel and watch a great sunset on the dunes. Overnight camping in Berber tent.

Day 2: M’Hamid Ouarzazate-Ait Benhaddou -Marrakech
After sunrise and breakfast at the foot of the dune of Erg Lihoudi, you visit the village of Tamgroute known for its Coranic school, old library and the potters’ quarter. Then you walk along the Draa Valley with its beautiful date palms and fields of henna. After you cross back over the Anti Atlas, Arrival to Ait Benhaddou for lunch and visit the famous Ksar (fortified village) of Ait Benhaddou. Finally, you drive along the valley Ounila also called the valley of salt. Finally, cross back over the High Atlas to return to Marrakesh.

a) Please make sure to bring warm clothing in winter (no sleeping bags), light clothing in summer, sunscreen, a hat, good walking shoes, a flashlight, and pants (for the camel trek). Shorts and skirts are not recommended for the trek due to friction with feces that can cause skin irritations.
