Everyone is impressed by the majesty and cruelty of gladiatorial fights, but what was the reason for their success? Were they really so popular or maybe there were even more thrilling entertainments? Why spending fortunes to find, train, send and show wild beasts and gladiators to the more than 170 arenas of the Roman world?
With this tour, you will not only explore some of the most incredible architectural wonders ever built: you will also discover the reasons for all this! You will be surprised to see that ancient Romans loved shows, betting, gambling, eating and toasting to the sponsors of the games and were targets of political propaganda just like us…

And you will see archaeological evidence of everyday life in the Arena as well as in the Imperial Palace of the Palatine Hill but most of all at the heart Rome’s life: the main square of the city, the Republican Forum!

People with limited mobility, wheelchairs and small strollers are welcome on this tour.
We offer a special itinerary for blind people.
